Algoma was established in 1975 and began as a painting company completing commercial projects. Contracts at the time included coating work for institutions, universities, offices, arenas, and more. In 1985 Giuseppe Fortino became a partner of the business and saw an opportunity for protective coatings in the industrial sector. The business began to evolve and expand, and Algoma began to complete many large industrial projects with a focus on the sewer and wastewater treatment industry.
Giuseppe Fortino’s sons, Eugene and Marco Fortino, grew up in the coatings industry and were involved with the company beginning at a young age. Eugene and Marco, along with their cousin Frank Presta, eventually took over ownership of the company and Algoma continues to be family owned operating with the same founding values of providing quality workmanship and completing projects on time and on budget.
